How & Why I Became a Librarian.

Just like a lot of others in the trade it all started with a love of books. As a child I loved going to the local library and coming home with a stack of books to read - even if they were only picture ones! I don't remember at the time wanting to be the lady behind the library desk though!
I wanted to work in an office and be a very efficient secretary and that is exactly what I did for many years - well I think I was fairly efficient! Anyhow, I worked in Administration for many years gaining experience in business, accounts and customer service. Life caught up with me - family matters - took a career break for few years.
A part-time job as library assistant came up in a College nearby and I thought this would suit me and it is still suiting me 12 years later! I studied librarianship over the years through distance learning.
I have to say I love the job. I have worked in a variety of areas, short term loans, journals, ordering and receiving. My favourite area has to be the issue desk! Being of assistance to a student gives me great satisfaction.
I like that the job is ever changing especially in the electronic world we are in. You always have to keep your knowledge up to date which helps to keep you fresh and interested in your job.

Blogging out!
